Roots and Wings

I read this quote on another blog the other day:

"There are two lasting bequests we can give our children: One is roots, the other is wings."

As I read these words, I marveled at the dichotomy, yet the import, of this statement. The value of appreciating "roots and wings" to me is:

Roots: security; comfort; predictability; history; knowledge; appreciation; respect; groundedness; realism; insight; understanding; acceptance; love

Wings: independence; freedom; confidence; individuality; creativity; exploration; dance; joy; laughter; height

My "word associations" express my goals and desires of the legacy to provide to Jacob and Grace as they grow. Roots and Wings . . .
