Loosing my voice . . .

Yesterday it happened . . . as I was talking, I felt my throat narrowing and narrowing; eventually, my voice became a whisper -- OR -- if I tried to force it, a loud, squeaky, inconsistent . . . well, you get the picture. It wasn't too bad, until the end of the day. Fortunately, I was able to go home and rest. (Early! It was only 11 p.m.!)

Jacob and Grace were still up (I know, I know!) . . . it was the first time they had 'heard' me lose my voice. After each sentence I spoke, they would wait a moment, look at me quizzically, and ask, "did you find your voice yet, mama?" . . . oh, if only . . .

This morning it was still raspy, but better . . . it was difficult for me to make my arguments in court. The Judge and opposing counsel in a particularly contentious matter both looked like they were having a hard time suppressing their laughter . . .

Then the afternoon came. I don't think I was off the phone for more than 47 seconds before the next call came in or was made. It is now 6:11 p.m., and I can barely force any sound . . . a couple of you have 'spoken' with me today . . . you know . . .

Well, I guess I'll make myself some hot tea or -- more likely -- coffee. Just don't call me tonight! Or, if you do, please do all the talking . . . I think I'll just listen!
